General Information

Consular Services and Requirements

  • All in-person visits to the Embassy for consulate service are strictly by appointment only. No walk-in visitors are attended to. To obtain an appointment, please click on the appointment link on our website.
  • Make sure you have all the required documentation available before you schedule an appointment. If you do not have the documentation ready at the time of your appointment, you will be asked to reschedule.
  • All original documents must be submitted along with A4-size photocopies.

Replacement of Lost/Stolen Passport

  • Completed Passport Application Form
  • Three recent passport-sized color photographs
  • Original certificate of Birth
  • A colored copy of the Bio-data Page of the current Eritrean passport
  • The expired Eritrean passport (The Embassy will retain the old passport)
  • The affidavit states the circumstances causing the passport to be lost, stolen, or damaged. This can also be done at the Embassy.
  • Police Report (signed, stamped, and certified by the issuing Authority)
  • Copy of Aufenthaltstitl (Swiss Residence permit)
  • Copy of Meldebescheinigung (Proof of address)
  • A police report (declaration of loss) is required to prepare a new identity document.
  • Ensure that you carefully read the Application Forms before completing them.

An Emergency Travel Document

An Emergency Travel document is issued to a person to facilitate urgent travel in distressed or unpredicted situations where it is not possible to issue a valid Passport. It is valid only for one-way travel to Eritrea.

Eligibility:

  1. An Eritrean citizen
  2. A Passport is Lost/Stolen/Damaged
  3. Illness or death of a close relative
  4. Deportation, Removal, Repatriation
  5. Any other circumstances deemed as an emergency by the Embassy.
  6. The Applicant is required to appear at the Embassy to make the application physically.
  7. All original documents will be returned to the Applicant.
  8. Renunciation of Citizenship
  9. Copy of Aufenthaltstitl (Swiss Residence permit)
  10. Copy of Meldebescheinigung (Proof of address)
  11. Ensure that you carefully read the Application Forms before completing them.
